40 Years of Sweet Success: The Springhill Farm Story
This year, Springhill Farm is celebrating a milestone that feels both surreal and incredibly sweet - 40 years of baking, creating, and sharing moments of joy through food.
What started as a humble idea on a family farm in country Victoria has grown into a brand found in supermarkets, lunchboxes, and homes across Australia. And yet, at its heart, Springhill Farm is still exactly what it always was: a family business fuelled by love, laughter, and the belief that snacks are about more than food — they’re about connection.
How it all began
In the early 1980s, Jo (or Jojo to her eight grandkids) had a simple idea: when school groups came to visit the family’s farm, she wanted to give them something delicious to remember their day by. While Ray showed kids how to collect eggs, milk goats, and enjoy the full farm experience, Jo got busy in the kitchen.
The result? A homemade muesli slice — wholesome, hearty, and quickly famous (so famous, it even ended up in Vogue magazine). Word spread fast, and soon Jo and Ray found themselves baking full-time.
Passing the torch
Decades later, Jo and Ray handed over the reins to their daughter Fiona and her husband James. Growing up, Fiona had been an enthusiastic taste tester for her mum’s creations, so stepping into the business felt like a natural fit.
Together, Fiona and James have now been at the helm for more than 10 years, steering Springhill Farm from its country roots into supermarket aisles while holding tight to the values Jo and Ray began with: simple ingredients, honest food, and snacks that bring people together.
Milestones worth celebrating
Over the past 40 years, there have been plenty of sweet achievements:
- 1980s – Jojo’s original muesli slice becomes the star of school farm visits (and makes its way into Vogue).
- 1990s – The farm kitchen turns into a full-time baking business.
- 2000s – Springhill Farm slices find their way into stores across Australia.
- 2010s – Fiona and James take the reins, growing the business while keeping it proudly Ballarat-based.
- 2014 – Qantas fell in love with our Slice and we continue to fly high in the skies.
- 2020s – Springhill Farm expands into confectionery with the launch of boodles, shaking up the snacking aisle with bite-sized chocolate clusters.
- 2021 – Partnership with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, supplying snacks to blood donors Australia wide.
- 2024 – A new adventure begins with healthier, 5-star health aisle snacks — proving once again that “healthy” and “delicious” don’t have to be opposites.
The future of snacking
As we look ahead, our mission remains the same: to make snacking happier again. In a world where food often feels complicated, we believe snacks should be simple moments of joy. Whether it’s a slice with your cuppa, a boodle on the school run, or one of our new health aisle creations, we’re proud to keep creating treats that bring people together.
From Jojo’s farm kitchen to supermarket shelves nationwide, the Springhill Farm story has always been about more than food — it’s about family, fun, and 40 years of sweet connections.
Here’s to the next 40. 🥂
