A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESPRESSO MARTINI
In the rich and storied history of cocktail culture, the Espresso Martini is a relative newcomer to the scene.
Picture this: 1980s. London. A famous model. A braggadocios young bartender named Dick Bradsell. All the hallmarks of a sassy hit film starring Natalie Portman and a tousle-haired Tom Hiddleston...
It's 1984 (ish).
One evening — around the time JoJo was perfecting her now-famous Springhill Farm Slices — Dick was taking his usual evening tube ride to work at London hotspot Fred's Club when, piped through the headphones of his Sony Walkman® the song "Wake Me Up Before Your Go-Go" came on.
A jolt Inspiration struck...
Coincidentally, that very same evening...
After a night on the well-heeled tiles of Fred's Club, a young and soon-to-be-famous model sidled up to bar and asked Dick for something that would "Wake Me Up!?"
'Ding!' It was music to Dick's ears...
Fixing his gaze on the coffee machine behind the bar, Dick brewed a strong shot of espresso and added it to his famous Martini, and, hey (Es)presto!?
The Espresso Martini was born...
The story of Boozy* Slice is not dissimilar.
It was a Thursday night, and Springhill Farm Brand Manager Nora had just tucked the kids up, ready for a night on the couch when — in a moment of self-control — she decided to choose between our Coconut and Dark Choc Slice, or her (in)famous Espresso Martini. Not both.
And there it was, the greatest 'aha' moment in the history of slice.
They'll make a film about it one day...
