A SLICE APART TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER

Slices Don’t Discriminate: 3 Persian Paths to True Love in Australia...

Legend has it there was once a Persian woman who was madly in love with a Prince. To make him fall in love with her, she baked a cake that packed magical love powers in every bite.

There are actually two endings to the fairy tale – in one, the prince loved the cake so much that he instantly fell in love with the Persian woman. And, in the other, he shuns her love so she enjoys the entire cake to herself.

Fair play either way. We’d fall in love with anyone who whipped out a Springhill Farm Persian Love Slice – and equally happily have one to ourselves!

With a decadent mix of refreshing coconut, warming cardamon , spicy nutmeg and aromatic orange oil, this mix of Middle Eastern magic sends our love hormone Oxytocin through the roof. Set on a bed of white chocolate, with sweet pistachio and raspberry sprinkles, it really is 150 grams of eternal love at first sight.

Like our slice, love doesn’t discriminate

During the reign of the Parthian Empire in Ancient Persia (227 BCE – 224 CE), the women and men of ancient Persia were considered equal, which was hugely progressive on the scale of the day’s global socio-politics. Both genders could own land, conduct business, travel freely, command titles of respect, be paid the same and, in the case of royalty, hold council meetings on policy.

Cyrus The Great established the Persian paradigm of freedom of religion and expression in his empire, but was also responsible for maintaining the dignity and autonomy of all people, regardless of class. This enabled and encourage social mobility, including the option to marry into a different class (which meant ‘commoners’ – like our Love Cake heroine – could marry into royalty).

That sounds like our sort of Empire!

At Springhill Farm, we believe that love is love and that slices are for everyone – whether you are gluten-free, plant-based, L.G.B.T.Q.I.A., heterosexual, whatever your age, shoe size, heritage or footy team (maybe not footy team... have we gone too far?!)

Wild about Love: The 3 colours of Springhill Farm Persian Love Slices

Celebrating love – and all its colours – we’re releasing our most inclusive treat yet; the Persian Love Slice. Of course, it comes with three different skins, each presenting beautiful hand-painted illustrations centered around a ‘Wild About Love’ jungle theme:

Alex, a Syrian-born artist based in Melbourne, has lovingly created these amazing illustrations. The Love Slice packaging combines Persian, Syrian, Japanese, Australian and American art and influence, with Alex’s greatest inspiration coming from his love of animation, including Disney and Studio Ghibli. And unlike every other bit of Valentine’s Day junk that’s out there, Springhill Farm and Alex have created a sumptuous gift that will stand the test of time... at least the packaging will (the slice has a shelf-life of 9 months if you can make it last that long).

Why the 3 different packages? Because “life is like a box of chocolates”

“My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates,” said Tom Hanks’ character Forrest Gump in the 1994 eponymous film based on Winston Groom’s romcom novel.

“You never know what you're gonna get.”

Such is the beauty of life.

Tarzan, Wayne, Jane, Roxanne and everyone in Australia has the right to choose whichever chocolate they would like from the box of life – a choice that should always be made with love and without judgement. Australia took a massive step forward in 2017 to legalise marriage, but our research suggests the treat industry hasn’t followed at the same pace. Valentine’s Day is universally declared the day of love, and we want to make sure that everyone can enjoy the occasion, regardless of sexual orientation. We want retailers to offer choice to their customers this Valentine’s Day, with three Persian Love Slice boxes side by side on shelves.

Just as variety is the spice of life, cardamon is the spice of love, bringing fire and passion to the table. Arabian Nights, the famous collection of Persian, Indian, and Arabian folktales, refers to the spice as a powerful aphrodisiac; one of the most valued spices in the world, with an intense and aromatic flavour used to bring out the best in both sweet and savoury food. Its eloquence, culinary magic and healing powers have earned it the title ‘Queen Of Spices’. Like the Love Cake itself, this mysterious green pod, thought to conjure clarity and presence, enjoys a colourful and spiritual history dating back thousands of years.

But before we get too hot and steamy, remember, a slice is not just for Christmas (or just a one night stand)…

Springhill Farm have proudly released a slice for most occasions, and we’re going to keep them coming… Christmas Slice, Valentine’s Slice, Easter Slice, it’s just the start. But don’t forget that a slice isn’t just for a special occasion... although 3pm is a bit of an occasion for us… every day!

We will continue to  keep the love interesting, with new flavours, recipes and products hitting shelves for every season. Ultimately, these slices and bites are carving out happiness moments in the lives of Australian consumers – our aim is to make snacking happier and we think our new direction is helping to achieve this, one big bite at a time.

In the name of keeping traditions alive, the Persian Love Slice awakens this amazing historical and romantic Persian Love Cake recipe and story, and brings Valentine’s Day into the 21st century, with our view that love-is-love, and a little help from our friends Tarzan, Wayne, Jane, Roxanne and Alex.

Love is all about sharing and inclusivity, and it’s not just for Valentine’s Day – so share the love all around in 2022.
